Swede Björn Hansen wins home race

Hansen’s Mekonomen Sailing Team retains leadership position in Alpari World Match Racing Tour 2012

Following another tight race, Björn Hansen secured his second win of the season at STENA Match Cup Sweden, the third stage of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour. The Swedish/Finnish national and his Mekonomen Sailing Team delivered an excellent performance in the breathtaking final duel with four-time ISAF Match Racing World Champion Peter Gilmour in front of a thrilled home crowd. The Swedish city Marstrand celebrated late into the night.

A staggering 120,000 sailing fans attended the six-day event in southern Sweden, including Her Royal Highness Princess Madeline of Sweden and from Malaysia, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Terengganu. Changeable weather conditions made for some very exciting racing as the teams battled for championship points for the third time this season.

The leaderboard

With Hansen continuing to head up the Alpari World Match Racing Tour leaderboard, Gilmour remains in second place and 2011 Tour Champion Ian Williams is in third place. Don’t miss the action in the US, at Chicago Match Cup, until 15 July!
